What on Earth is the Blue Man Group?
If you've never witnessed a Blue Man Group show live, then now's the excellent chance. The group, which consists of three "blue" men played by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman, has now found a permanent home at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
What on Earth is the Blue Man Group?
The trio has been likened to new-age mimes, as they're mute performers who entertain by incorporating a mix of idiosyncratic instruments and gut-busting playground comedy into their routine. They gift themselves covered in blue grease paint over latex bald caps and wear black clothing.
The group initially shocked audiences by the element of surprise. No one was aware of the group's intentions, and to find unexpected humor and actual talent was a much welcomed and impressive gift.
Their current show runs for almost two hours. For fans of the Blue Man Group who have previously watched one of their sublime Luxor shows, the Venetian show is basically the same, yet on a much larger scale. Many critics say that the element of surprise that the group once had on their side has now worn off over time.
Returning fans can expect to see much of the same child-like humor and drum banging as with former Blue Man spots. Although in Las Vegas, the uncut ambiance of a particular act's show is more than half the battle. For example, fans of Wayne Newton repeatedly show up to hear him sing the same songs - so there's something about a good thing that can never be too much for some.
A new seating arrangement situates spectators closer to the stage, which is kept secret from the audience on purpose for half of the show. When the complete stage is finally revealed, the audience is dazzled by beautiful high-definition video and brilliant lighting effects. The group also employs a bit of newer material that was pirated from a rock tour that never made its way to Las Vegas.
The group performs a parody of varied boy bands and also performs songs from sublime artists like Madonna on their Pvc instruments. A bit of the show that has been around for about three years is the flat-screen television bit, in which the Tvs take place of the group's heads. Whether or not they'll still accomplish that on your visit is entirely up to the group.
The theater has splendid sound quality, and audience members will be blown away by the visual and sound effects. When it comes to your personal taste, only you can rule if the Blue Man Group's brand of entertainment is right for you. It may not be a fair assessment if you see "O," the Cirque De Soleil show, the night before and then try to have the blue men top it off.
Unfortunately, that's the reckon the Blue Man Group's ratings have dropped off a bit over the past few years. Population expect the act to be something more than it is: a hilariously funny habit that opens up your ears and eyes, all perpetrated by blue-painted mimes.
